Root Canal and Endodontics in St. Paul, MN
Is persistent tooth pain interfering with your life? If you are having difficulty eating, sleeping or simply getting through each day because of tooth pain, Hagerman Dental Care can help.
Infected teeth are a serious oral health problem that need attention right away. In all likelihood, you will need a root canal – a procedure that can relieve your pain and save your tooth from extraction (being pulled). Dr. Steven Hagerman can detect, diagnose and treat infected teeth, sometimes in only one visit.
What is a root canal?
There are two areas of each tooth: the crown (the visible part above the gum line) and one or more roots that extend below the gum. Inside each tooth is a hollow area and tunnels (canals) that run down each root. These hollow spaces contain nerves and soft tissue called pulp. If the pulp becomes infected by an untreated cavity, it needs to be removed.
A root canal procedure is performed to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. During the procedure, the tooth’s nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the gum tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.
Depending on the degree of decay and infection, Dr. Hagerman can perform root canals in only one visit, saving you time and discomfort. He will perform a comprehensive examination to determine if you are a candidate for single-visit root canal. After having a root canal, your tooth will require some type of permanent dental restoration, such as a crown or filling.
