Your Root Canal and the Recovery Process

The most important thing to remember about your upcoming root canal is that the procedure actually relieves pain. Even the root canal itself is not as painful or difficult as you may think. Here’s what to expect from your root canal and the recovery period immediately afterward.

Are you experiencing persistent tooth pain that it is making it hard for you to do anything throughout the day, or even giving you trouble sleeping at night? In some cases, this can be due to inflamed or infected pulp in the root of your tooth, and a dentist can help by performing a root canal.

Hearing the words “root canal” don’t usually make people feel warm and fuzzy, but in a way, maybe they should. Because if you have been living with the pain of an infected or badly damaged tooth, a root canal may provide the relief you need. Besides which, modern dentistry has changed in recent years. There are more ways to safely and painlessly care for your teeth than there were even 10 years ago. Ultra-modern dental techniques can make an endodontic treatment (root canal) seem like a routine visit to the dentist’s office. A little information can go a long way towards not being afraid of a root canal anymore.

Preparing for a Root Canal

Preparing for a Root Canal

We’ve all heard the rumors – root canals are scary and painful procedures, but sometimes they are necessary. A root canal is a procedure whereby the pulp of the tooth, or the soft tissue under the enamel, becomes inflamed or infected. These may be caused by a chip in the tooth, a crack, or even trauma to the tooth. If left untreated, inflamed pulp can lead to the loss of the tooth. More than 15 million root canals are performed annually, so while your dentist is very experienced in the procedure, it is often difficult to keep calm. But what can you do to prepare to make it easier?
